Families
A parent's guide to the kids program.
What your child will learn, how the room is run, and how to make the first class easy.
Kids classes at New Richmond Combat Club are built for character as much as skills, focus, respect, confidence, and movement in a supervised room.
01
What kids learn
Age-appropriate martial arts fundamentals, listening skills, partner respect, and the confidence that comes from showing up and improving. Classes stay structured and positive — not a free-for-all.
02
Safety and supervision
Coaches run the room. Contact is controlled, technique comes first, and kids are taught how to train with partners. Injuries can happen in any contact sport; beginner work is scaled carefully.
03
What to bring
Comfortable clothes they can move in for the first visits. Uniform and equipment details will be shared as opening approaches.
04
The first class
Arrive a few minutes early. Meet the coach, ask questions, and stay to watch if you like. Your child does not need experience — we start with the basics.
05
Parents on the sideline
You are welcome to observe. Cheer quietly for effort and sportsmanship. Do not coach from the sideline during live rolls — no “harder,” “don’t quit,” or “beat them” talk. Leave the coaching to us, and save questions for before or after class.
06
Ages and schedule
Kids classes start at age 4. Kids BJJ is Monday and Wednesday, 5:00–6:00 PM. Reach out through Contact if you want on the list early.
